WNC Shuttle, Waynesville’s only private car service, launched a few short weeks ago and the community response has been overwhelmingly supportive. We’ve benefited from congratulations, well-wishes, plenty of “We need this service!” proclamations, and, yes, passengers. The gracious feedback reinforces our gratitude for being part of such a kind-hearted, encouraging community. So a big THANK YOU, Haywood County!
WNC Shuttle is still very much in the process of teaching the public about our services and our vision for contributing to the transportation infrastructure of rural and remote Western North Carolina.
The purpose of this post is to add some clarity about the new company known as WNC Shuttle.
WHO is WNC Shuttle?
WNC Shuttle is owned and operated by Justin and Traci Lombard and is based out of Waynesville, NC. Justin and Traci are college sweethearts who, after years of planning, successfully relocated to Western North Carolina in 2020 after having lived for 25 years in Phoenix, AZ.
They have three children: a daughter who will soon graduate from Arizona State University, a son who’s a senior at Tuscola High School, and a Golden Retriever named Tucker who is an endless source of love and affection in the home. (And fur. So. Much. Fur.)
WNC Shuttle is a proud member of the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce and Justin is a recent graduate of the Leadership Haywood program. The family attends The Orchard Church.
WHAT is WNC Shuttle?
Based on some of the transportation inquiries that we’ve received, it might be easiest to start with what we’re NOT.
WNC Shuttle is NOT:
- Ideally suited for short rides (less than an hour or just a few miles)
- A taxi service
- An on-demand ride-sharing service like Uber or Lyft
- A limousine service
- A charter bus or “party-bus” operator
- Unpredictable in terms of punctuality, driver professionalism, or vehicle standards
Wow, now that I’ve typed it out, it sure seems like we don’t do a lot. 🙁
Actually, we do quite a bit!
WNC Shuttle IS:
- Ideally suited for longer rides (at least an hour or many miles)
- A chauffeured luxury private car service
- Available for pre-arranged hourly, point-to-point, and airport transportation
- Licensed by the State of North Carolina (“For Hire”)
- Commercially-insured (high limit)
- Dedicated to providing immaculate, late-model, luxurious vehicles and professional drivers
I should add that our fleet vehicle is an exceptional differentiator. We use a Platinum Edition F-150 fitted with an aftermarket 4-wheel adjustable suspension system for a sure-footed, well-behaved ride on and off the pavement.
We cover the extended bed with a remote-controlled aluminum roll-away cover than can handle oversized loads in the open position, and protect the most fragile cargo in the closed position.
For easy entry and exit, automatic running boards extend and detract when doors are opened or closed.
We’ve added Baja Designs high performance lighting for navigating pitch black curvy mountain roads.
Interior appointments include perforated leather seats with heating/cooling/massage features, panoramic windows throughout, a $5,000 aftermarket studio quality sound system, and a spacious, quiet cabin.
We’ve spared no expense in crafting a vehicle that delights our passengers!
WHERE is WNC Shuttle?
Not surprisingly, WNC Shuttle operates primarily in Western North Carolina.
However, what may surprise you is that we specialize in providing transportation to and from rural and hard-to-reach areas where other car services won’t go, either due to (lack of) profitability or vehicle limitations.
As you can see above, our fleet is designed specifically to excel in unpredictable mountain road and weather conditions. Our goal is to get you wherever you want to go in safety, comfort, and style.
WHEN is WNC Shuttle?
With the exception of a rare day off, WNC Shuttle operates 24/7/365. For overnight service between 12am – 5am, when we have to rearrange our sleep schedule to accommodate a ride, we charge a surcharge. The same holds true for certain holidays and special events.
WHY is WNC Shuttle?
This is documented in more detail on the “About WNC Shuttle” section of our website, but the bottom line is that we created the company to provide a professional service that has been missing from the community. We think that folks west of Asheville deserve to have access to the same private transportation options that urbanites do.
